After the vote, the hills fall silent,
Promises fade with the morning light.
Words once loud in every corner
Disappear like the end of night.
Hands that came with smiling faces
Slowly turn and walk away.
Only broken hopes are left behind,
To face another endless day.
Young ones leave with heavy hearts now,
Searching for work in distant towns.
Homes stay quiet, mothers waiting,
Wearing worry like their gowns.
No good hospital when life is shaking,
No strong college close to home.
So every dream must leave the hills,
And learn to survive alone.
Yet Darjeeling still keeps hoping,
In every tear and every prayer.
Waiting for a real tomorrow,
When someone finally cares.
